MERIT is seeking a full-time Ophthalmology Proposal Associate to participates in the day-to-day operations of proposal development and activities. This individual is responsible for leading the activities related to evaluating and generating client proposals. Responsible for evaluating customer research, market conditions, and competitor data to implement business development strategies as directed. Leads the training of new proposal development staff and is responsible for the development of departmental processes and procedures. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned.)

  • Leads the preparation and development of responses to requests for proposals (RFPs) and grant opportunities issued by clients or the government for potential business opportunities.
  • Leads the preparation and development of project change requests, including the collaboration with other departments at MERIT to ensure all changes are appropriately accounted for. 
  • Assists in ensuring that business development associates are completing their task appropriately and in a timely manner, including ensuring that appropriate documentation is filed and saved accurately. 
  • Leads the development and implementation of the business development training program for new staff member. 
  • Develops department processes and documentation and updates and maintains those processes as needed.
  • Maintains a positive Company image and positive relations between the Company and key customers.
  • Participates in promotional activities that meet the goals of the enterprise (e.g. may attend trade shows, seminars, and other promotional activities).
  • Organizes and prioritizes work assignments to complete assignments and tasks on time, with quality and has the ability to anticipate problem areas in advance. Applies creative approaches and ideas to solve problems maximizing effective use of appropriate resources.

Education and Experience:

A BA or BS degree from a four-year college or university is preferred, with one to three years of prior related experience in proposal development, business development, or procurement, preferably in a health care or service-related environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 


Other Skills and Abilities:

Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, excellent attention to detail, ability to follow direction, assess Company needs and work independently. Computer skills to include proficiency in Microsoft Office software and ability to learn Company specific software. Must be able to project a professional attitude and image appropriate for the work environment.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Ability to participate and contribute in a team environment as a team member or in a leadership role. Oral and written communication is clear, concise, and effective. Ability to maintain neutral approach when resolving conflicts and utilize the Human Resources area as a resource.
