Full-Time Medical Transcriptionist

Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Dallas, TX

The Medical Transcriptionist is responsible for converting audio recordings of physicians into accurate written reports, correspondence, and other medical systems. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Listens to dictation and transcribe into well-organized and accurate reports.

• Identifies any discrepancies in dictation and edit accordingly.

• Translates complex medical terms and ensures that the meaning of the report does not change.

• Develops an extensive knowledge of medical terminology and familiarity with a variety of medical documents.

• Proofs report to confirm all tracks (standard information) and handouts that have been used are for that specific physician.

• Submits completed report to physician for review either through “revision folder” or paper draft.

• Completes any follow up letters that are necessary per dictation.

• Scans reports into the EHR system, accurately.

• Adheres to HIPAA guidelines and protects confidential patient information.

• Maintains a positive attitude and adheres to the Cooper purpose and core values.

• Follows all Clinic policies and standard operating procedures.

• Completes duties on site or off site, as assigned, with consistent, regular, and reliable attendance.

• Accomplishes other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills (grammar, spelling, punctuation).

• Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills.

• Strong organizational, time management and attention to detail skills.

• Possess problem-solving skills, be self-motivated, and strive for professionalism.

• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology.

• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy under pressure.

• Typing skills of 55 words per minute.

• Proficiency with transcription software (e.g., Fluency for transcription, Powerscribe, Epic or similar) along with familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.

Education and/or Experience

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one-year medical experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Previous experience in a medical office, physician practice, hospital, or acute care setting preferred.

• Certification as a Registered Healthcare Documentation Specialist (RHDS) or Certified Healthcare Documentation Specialist (CHDS) preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift, carry, move, push, and pull occasionally up to 25 pounds.

• Able to type on a keyboard regularly.

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk.

• Make timely decisions in the context of a workflow.
