Join us and discover a rich selection of health care options, robust retirement plans and the flexibility to work, relax and rejuvenate as you reach your fullest personal and professional potential.<br><br><strong>CHECK OUT OUR OUTSTANDING BENEFITS! </strong>Click here to see a list of employee benefits.<br><br><strong>The Team Member We Are Searching For<br><br></strong><ul><li>Has immediate responsibility for performing a variety of specialized clerical duties in the personnel office of a County department.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Follow us on Social Media!<br><br></strong><ul><li>Maintains personnel files and records of individual employees, including work history, vacations, leaves of absence, probation reports, performance evaluations, appraisals of promotability, status changes, and disciplinary actions.</li><li>Maintains a system of item control as a check on the number of allocated positions and the status of each; prepares requests for approval of deviations such as frozen or borrowed positions.</li><li>Compiles periodic statistical reports providing management with information such as turnover, vacancies, total number employed, and budget needs.</li><li>Disseminates information concerning recruitment needs to various agencies and organizations.</li><li>Obtains eligible lists, certifications, examination results, medical records, and other information pertaining to the recruitment, testing and selection of applicants.</li><li>Interprets salary provisions of the County Code to determine the salary rate applicable in a given set of circumstances, considering factors such as Y-rates, advanced step recruitment, superior-subordinate pay, shift differentials, bonuses, hazard pay, and furnishes necessary data to the payroll section.</li><li>Provides information to applicants, explains Civil Service procedure, evaluates applications, clarifies questionable or inadequate information, and attempts to resolve problems affecting eligibility.</li><li>Assists in securing special examiners and interviewers.</li><li>Conducts initial interviews of eligible candidates and recommend them for employment as needed.</li><li>Conducts preliminary investigations in situations involving police records, proposed disciplinary action, employee grievances, etc.</li><li>Provides information to employees concerning their rights, benefits and responsibilities, departmental policies and regulations, Civil Service Rules, and the County Code; may conduct orientation of new employees.</li><li>Supervises a small clerical staff in the personnel office as needed.<br><br></li></ul>For more information, click here to view the classification specification: Departmental Personnel Assistant.<br><br><strong>Requirements To Qualify<br><br></strong><strong>Option I: </strong>One year of experience assisting in technical personnel work* in a Central Personnel Office** at the level of Senior Clerk, Senior Typist- Clerk or higher.***<br><br><strong>Option II: </strong>One year of payroll experience at the level of Payroll Clerk I****.<br><br><strong>Important note on at the leve</strong><strong>l of</strong><strong>:</strong> You may still qualify even if your job title isn’t exactly the same as the one listed. What matters is that your experience is at a similar level — meaning your job involves similar responsibilities, requires comparable skills and knowledge, and takes place within a similar organizational structure. Please provide a clear explanation of your experience to demonstrate that it is at the appropriate level.<br><br><strong>SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION<br><br></strong><ul><li> Technical personnel work experience such as policy development and application, examination and recruitment, classification and salary administration, employee relations, staff development, performance management, discipline and advocacy, benefits and retirement, Worker’s Compensation and Return-to-Work programs, personnel operations and personnel records.</li><li> Central Personnel Office is responsible in providing human resources or personnel functions to the entire organization or County department under the direction of a Human Resources Manager.</li><li>Experience at the level of Senior Clerk, Senior Typist- Clerk includes have independent responsibility for or or leading others in completing their assignments, including: the review, verification, and processing of documents or transactions, record keeping, file location and compilation, and document development or updating.</li><li> Experience at the level of Payroll Clerk I is defined as processing the payroll for a segment of an organization or county departmental or Health services payroll operation.<br><br></li></ul><strong>LICENSE<br><br></strong>A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to use an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.<br><br><strong>PHYSICAL CLASS<br><br></strong>Physical Class II - Light: This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting.
