<strong>Job Description<br><br></strong>The Data Architect will lead the strategic planning, design, and governance of data systems for the Bank. This includes defining architecture, designing models, establishing standards, and ensuring governance across the data landscape. The role involves leading the design, development, and implementation of robust data integration and transformation solutions in a Snowflake cloud data warehouse environment.<br><br>This position is pivotal in shaping Capitol Federal's data infrastructure strategy, ensuring scalable and efficient data pipelines, and enabling high-quality analytics to meet reporting needs across the organization. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in ETL/ELT design, data modeling, and Snowflake architecture, along with a strong understanding of modern data warehousing best practices. Collaboration with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders is essential to translate business requirements into data solutions that drive informed decision-making.<br><br><strong>Essential Duties & Responsibilities<br><br></strong><ul><li>Define data architecture and design data models.</li><li>Establish and enforce data standards and governance policies.</li><li>Oversee technology recommendations and architecture blueprints.</li><li>Create and maintain documentation such as data flows and models.</li><li>Support Business Analysts in gathering and defining requirements.</li><li>Assist Data Engineers with development tasks when needed.</li><li>Participate in meetings with business stakeholders to understand and translate requirements.</li><li>Develop and optimize data models (star/snowflake schemas, normalized/denormalized structures) for efficient querying and storage in Snowflake.</li><li>Develop and maintain data architecture documentation, data dictionaries, and source-to-target mappings.</li><li>Design and implement scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using tools tailored for Snowflake.</li><li>Ensure data quality, integrity, and security through robust validation processes, data governance, and access control mechanisms.</li><li>Lead the migration of legacy data systems to modern Snowflake-based architecture.</li><li>Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.</li><li>Monitor and optimize Snowflake performance, including warehouse sizing, clustering, and query optimization.</li><li>Establish best practices for data ingestion, transformation, and consumption within a cloud data platform.</li><li>Provide mentorship and technical guidance to data engineers and developers.</li><li>Performs other duties as assigned.</li><li>Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.</li><li>Must comply with current applicable laws, regulations and bank policies and procedures. Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures. Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Experience<br><br></strong><ul><li>10+ years of software development and/or data engineering experience.</li><li>5+ years of experience in data architecture or data engineering roles with a focus on ETL/ELT development.</li><li>Hands-on experience with Snowflake data warehouse, including performance tuning and optimization.</li><li>Experience with SQL Server and Oracle database management systems.<br><br></li></ul><strong>Education<br><br></strong><ul><li>College degree required. Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field preferred.<br><br></li></ul>Physical Requirement<br><br>Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management.<br><br>Regular in-office attendance required.<br><br>Mental and/or Emotional Requirements<br><br>Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to complete complex mathematical calculations and spell accurately. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities.
